Country Thunder WI | 2019
Holy smokes did we have a great time at Country Thunder Wisconsin! From meeting the friendliest people to the sampling the delicious cheese curds (we lost count at how many we actually had), and of course the stellar lineup, we indulged in everything that the Midwest has to offer! We can’t thank the great folks at Country Thunder enough for treating us to an absolutely unforgettable experience!!
This country music festival is nestled in the middle of a luscious green cornfield, on a farm in Southern Wisconsin. For any country music fan, the location of this venue couldn’t be any more beautiful – it really sets the tone for a great weekend of friends and fantastic live music. This year’s lineup featured Tim McGraw, Michael Ray Jake Owen, LOCASH, Ashley McBryde, Travis Denning, Chris Stapleton, Lindsay Ell, and our favorite Luke Combs, just to name a few.
Despite unusually high temperatures (the heat index on Friday hovered at around 110 degrees), followed by a quick thunderstorm to cool things off the next day, we had a fantastic time in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin.
Now that we have experienced our first Country Thunder Wisconsin, we can share more tips for what to expect if your planning to attend in the future. Check out our previous post on Country Thunder Wisconsin.
Getting there. Twin Lakes, Wisconsin is about an hour from the Milwaukee and Chicago airports, so be sure to plan ahead. We’d recommend renting a car if you’re traveling from out of town because Uber’s aren’t readily available once you’re at the festival grounds, plus the trip to and from the airport can be costly.
Footwear. Be prepared for any type of weather. We wore our Corral cowboy boots during most days of the country festival because the grounds can get muddy. With the exception of the pit/seated concert area, the festival site is all grass, which can quickly turn into mud. Don’t forget to poncho-up if it starts to rain and be sure to review our helpful tips for attending a country festival in the rain.
Camping. Camping is no joke at Country Thunder Wisconsin – it’s really for the dedicated fans that don’t mind roughing for a few days. If you’re like us and prefer RV camping at Stagecoach, you may want to book a hotel instead of pitching a tent. However, we did take a few trips out to the campgrounds and the tailgaters appeared to be having a great time! Some of the structures built for the weekend we’re pretty impressive! (Check out our photos below)
Food. The available food options are inspired by local favorites matched with a county fair. We indulged in our fair share of french fries, corn dogs and CHEESE CURDS! There is no shortage of cheese in the Midwest, so you know we were happy! 🙂 To purchase food you must purchase tickets from a ticket booth – the vendors do not accept cash or credit cards. Thankfully, the ticket booths accept cards if you don’t carry cash. Check out some of our snacks in the photos below.
Stay Hydrated! Don’t risk your chance to ruin your trip to an event you have been looking forward to all year by overdoing it. We can’t say this enough, remember to drink water! Pedialyte was on-site passing out free samples of their products that help you stay hydrated. We personally loved the grape flavor and drank it all weekend long at Country Thunder! Good news, Pedialyte is no longer just for babies! 🙂
Can’t make it to Wisconsin? That’s okay, Country Thunder now has six festivals throughout the United States and Canada. Country Thunder festival locations include Arizona, Wisconsin, Florida, Iowa, and Alberta and Saskatchewan Canada. Visit the Country Thunder website to learn more.
